"Seeing is believing"Corrosion on underside of bridge

It is becoming increasingly apparent that rebar corrosion can be costly and have serious implications for structural safety. Yet, the external signs of damage rarely reveal the true extent of internal corrosion. Where visible signs of concrete spalling are detected, this should be taken as an indication that closer investigation is required.

To be carried out accurately and effectively, investigation of this "invisible" damage requires expert know-how, precise measurement techniques and the use of specialist equipment. Without this, it is almost impossible to determine the real structural condition, the correct carrying capability and the safety risks posed by the concrete structure. As a result, possible repair methods are often over-looked. Low prioritisation and neglect of the extent of the damage can lead to sometimes dramatic consequences and far higher repair costs at a later date.

Corrosion on underside of beamExtensive corrosion of reinforced concrete structures is often due in part to an ingress or the presence of chlorides inside the concrete, sometimes in combination with low pH (carbonation). Taking the wrong approach to repairing the structures, (or worse still, taking no action at all) can result in wasted expense through inappropriate repairs, further damage to the structure and acceleration of the corrosion within only a few years.

Corrosion on underside of jettybeamProtector has over 20 years' experience of these issues, and has built up considerable expertise to assist the owner of concrete structures to reduce the cost and safety impacts of this corrosion. In the first instance we will assess the full condition of the structure in order to recommend the most appropriate repair methods, based on our extensive experience. This "right first time approach" will ensure we can save valuable time and money for you.
